Beckham Olympic Omission Surprises His Galaxy Team Mates

Landon Donovan:

"We're disappointed for David,"
"You look at it in a bigger context, the opportunity to play an Olympics in your home country is really special. To have that taken from you is devastating, especially for a guy who has done so much for the sport in that country. It doesn't really make sense."
"It'd be easier to understand if he wasn't playing well, but I think anybody who's seen him play would say he deserves to be on the team,"

Robbie Keane:
"The whole country was probably thinking that it was 100 per cent that he was going to be picked,"
"Everyone is shocked."

LA coach Bruce Arena:

"David's physically fine and he's just getting better," the former US national team boss said.
"Over the last two months he's really started to come into form. There's absolutely nothing wrong with him."

Casillas Hopes For More Final Glory

Iker Casillas:

"I was very quiet, or so it seemed to me,"
"Penalties are a lottery. I had the intuition in that penalty for Portugal and I stopped it, which was the best we could get."
"It was a kind of revenge for what happened to us as team. Ronaldo? He always shoots well in penalties. It was a decision from Portugal that he didn't shoot.
"Ramos' penalty? Well, you really need guts to shoot on Panenka's style. Ramos has showed male attributes here, and the courage he got."
"We were tired in the game, and that counts. Now we have another day to rest, and let's see what happens in the final."
"We've made history, already. We are still making it. We hope people remember that forever. Because it is unique what we are achieving."

Fabregas:
The team has worked so hard,"
"I had the feeling that there would be penalties tonight.
"I wanted to take one if we had this opportunity. To be honest, I am very excited. To reach another final in four years is amazing."
"After a very long season with so much work, we deserved this," the Real Madrid defender said.
"We are happy with the performance of the team. Individual success is not as important as the collective one, which is to reach the final."
"I am proud to be Spanish."

Jordi Alba:
"To be honest, it was a very even match, both in 90 minutes and the extra-time," Alba said. "Spain was the better team in extra-time, and before it was a very tough game."
"Iker Casillas is always here, and he's a huge keeper. We knew he was going to appear, like he always does
"The ones who really know take the penalties. I could have, but there are more players who do well."

I Was Next Penalty Taker - Ronaldo

"The penalties? I was going to take the next one,"
"I feel sad. Losing a semi-final in the penalty shoot-out is always painful, but it is a lottery: the luckier side wins.
"I think it was a good tournament on our part. We did very well. We are amongst the best four teams in Europe and the only reason we do not reach the final is because we were not lucky.
"We have to be proud of what we did, but we are a bit frustrated because we know we could reach the final.
"I gave my best, so I am satisfied with that I did. We deserved to be in the final, but we were not lucky."

My Team-mates Fixed It - Alonso

"Fortunately there was a happy ending for us, but it was tough and we had to work for it,"

"It was a very even game. In extra time we had a lot of chances, but someone has to win and fortune smiled on us. If someone had scored in the 90 minutes they'd have won the game."
"We knew it was going to be a difficult match, we'd studied them and we knew they'd come out strong and look to take advantage of their physical qualities, and we'd also have to stop their counter-attacks."
"We're in another final now and that's a tremendous reward,"
"Whatever happens, we have to be proud. In games like this you have to keep your calm. Now we want to take the cup home.
"For my penalty the goalkeeper made a good save but my team-mates fixed it."

Del Bosque Praised Spanish Defence

"We are happy, we've made an extraordinary effort in a very equal game all over 90 minutes,"

"We've been the better team in extra-time. It was a controlled game, a very slow one. We are all happy because we got fantastic players, even after a hard season, they gave it their all."

"We can discuss that we didn't play very well, but defensively we were great, all four defenders and two defensive midfielders. We had joy with Jesus Navas and Pedro on the flanks,"

"Everybody offered themselves to take penalties,"
"Cesc got the second, but he asked for the fifth one. We wouldn't discuss that. We had great confidence in Sergio Ramos. The keeper was choosing one of the sides in the shoot-out and he did well. And Sergio's was a good effort."
"Now, it is time to rest and prepare for the final."

Gerrard Rued England's Luck

Gerrard:

"The players have given everything. I thought we might have the luck in the penalty shootout but it wasn't to be,"

"When you get your nose in front during a shootout, you just hope you can hang on, but credit to Italy, they got the luck in the shootout."
"The lads at the back were fantastic, we have done the country proud but we go home heartbroken and that is hard to take."

Rooney:

"We're gutted about it, people weren't expecting much this tournament but we've shown we are a good team,"
"I don't know why we can't win penalty shootouts, it's a hard way to go out and it's happened too many times now."

Hart:
"I face penalties against Mario Balotelli on the training ground and I felt confident, but he took a good penalty,"
"I'll take away the great way we qualified, we've lost at the end of the day, but I don't think anyone has let the country down and we have adapted well to the manager."

Pedro: Spain Can Stop Ronaldo

"Cristiano is a fantastic player who's in a great form and that must be taken into account. But I think we know how to neutralise him, so let's wait and see what happens, we are very confident but it will be difficult,"

"We are virtually the same players as in the past, we are confident, playing well, and I think in that sense this team is as good as in the last Euro or World Cup,"

"We're hitting our stride at the right time and we hope to play a great game against Portugal."

"The team played well, the first goal calmed us down and we managed to keep possession. Being in control against a good team such as France should make us feel very satisfied,"
"It was also important because of the history between the two teams. They have always been a very tough rival, so it was so important to play a great match and finally beat them."

Pirlo's Penalty Wears Down Roy Hodgson's English Men

Pirlo:

"Joe Hart was doing some strange movements, "So when he dived I decided to take it like that and it went well."

"It put a bit of pressure on their takers and in fact Ashley Young missed his penalty after that."
"England did not create any chances during the match. They played for the penalty shoot-out, while we wanted to win."
"We knew we could dominate the match, and all that England did was defend. We used up more energy than we expected, but we were able to win the match."

Buffon:

"It is clear that I feared an upset,"
"In the penalty shoot-out you can be lucky and win or unlucky and lose. With regards to the 120 minutes of action, we deserved the victory, we created more chances than them."
"After Montolivo missed his penalty, I only thought that I should save as many as possible, because my team-mates deserved to win the match, and so did I."

De Rossi:
"Pirlo's penalty? It has been many years since I saw one this beautiful. It reminded me of Totti's penalty against Netherlands in 2000,"

Diamanti:
"Justice was done, we played better than England. We controlled the match from the first minute,"
"I did not think anything while I was taking my penalty, I only thought about scoring and go to Buffon and celebrate with him."

Real Betis defender Miki Roque passed away

The 23 years old Real Betis defender Miki Roque has passed away following a battle with pelvic cancer.

He was diagnosed with cancer in 2011 after undergoing a routine check-up on a back problem.

Roque hadsurgery to remove the tumour in May that year after Betis raised funds to pay for the defender's treatment by selling wrist-bands with the player's name written on them.

Roque was on Liverpool's books between 2005 and 2009, making just one official appearance for the Reds' first team, during a 3-2 Champions League victory against Galatasaray in December 2006.
After being released by the English club Roque joined Betis, where he made 14 competitive appearances in 2010-11 before being forced to halt his career after the tumour was discovered.

Benzema: Spain's attack struggled

"If you look at the whole game, Spain had one chance, one penalty and that's about it,"

"There are always regrets after a game."

"Every team that plays against Spain does not see the ball. You have to stay at the back and wait for a counter-attack. That is their style and it is the way it is, very tough. Besides, they pressure you a lot."

"This French team have a future. We bow out of the tournament with our heads up, knowing we can only be proud of what we did. We reached the quarter-finals, it is nice,"

"We must not overhaul the entire squad, but just keep working together,"

"We have built something."

Spain deserve semi spot - Del Bosque

"I do not think the result is undeserved because France did not have a proper goalscoring opportunity. We were in control most of the time,"

"We expected France to play defensively. The first goal made our task easier. We really felt more at ease afterwards."

"We really controlled the game well. France had almost no goal-scoring opportunity, which is a sign of our good organisation and solidarity."

Lampard Advices England On Penalties

"It is the most nerve-racking experience in football and you need the balls and the confidence to handle it. The pressure is just so intense,"

"Taking a penalty in a game is bad enough but, normally, if you miss in a match there's still time to try and put it right.
"In a shootout there are no second chances. That's it - it is the be all and end all and that adds to the pressure."
"Your mind is racing. You know the penalty taker is always expected to score. You can hear the opposition fans and you know they want you to miss. And you know the goalkeeper will have studied all your penalties and where you like to shoot,"
"The important thing is to make up your mind well before you go forward. You must decide what you are going to do and then stick to it. Don't ever change your mind.
"I try to go into 'the zone', to block out everything around me and just concentrate on what I'm going to do. Ignore the crowd, the antics of the opposition or the keeper. Block it all out and stick to your plan.".
"Anyone can miss a penalty, even Lionel Messi. Luckily, I have done pretty well over the years for club and country," he said.
"My toughest for England was at Wembley against Croatia in a Euro 2008 qualifier in 2007.
"We were 2-0 down at the time and so it was vital that I scored to try and get us back in the match. It was a full house at Wembley and I was anxious not to let the fans down. Thankfully, I scored but it wasn't enough as we lost 3-2."

Lampard: Cole Is King Of Left-backs

Lampard Said:

"Ashley is the best left-back England have ever had and he's shown that again,"

"He has been brilliant.
"But that does not surprise me. I have seen him go toe to toe with the best names in the game and have never seen anyone get the better of him. Not Lionel Messi, not Cristiano Ronaldo, not anybody."
"He's been the best left-back in England for years and to maintain those high standards over a decade is testimony to his skill and dedication."
"I'm sure he will go on and on, all the way to the 2014 World Cup finals in Brazil and maybe even beyond that."
"He'll definitely get 100 caps. If things go well that would be the final, which would be amazing. If not then it'll be very soon and I can see him racking up 120-130 caps, even more than Peter Shilton's 125 caps."
"This is certainly not a vintage Italy side and if you look at the names, there's not a lot of individuals we should be scared of,"
"I hope we can do it and I believe we can do it. And we all know it will be the Germans waiting for us next."

Beckham: Its Battle Of Midfield

Beckham said.

" Andrea Pirlo and Steven Gerrard are two of the best midfielders in the world,"

"Whoever plays well is going to set up the team to win the game."

"England have definitely got a chance of beating them,"

"I hope we do, and then we go up against the Germans in the semi-final which would be nice."

"They are battling, they are playing exceptionally well,"
"They are showing a togetherness which is obviously important, a lot of character."
"We've got a lot of young kids in the team with a lot of pace."
"They are all performing, and the manager is making the right changes at the right times."

Messi Criticises The Defensive Football Tactics of Chelsea

Messi criticeses the defensive tactics of Chelsea and Real Madrid That helped them beat Barcelona this season
"Football is a game. I'm trying to have fun on the pitch, always, just to play.
"That's why I do it. The day I stop having fun is the day I retire...I never want to lose that spark, that passion.
"Today, teams are playing more statically, more for the final score than producing good football.
"For them, it's more important to win than to play well. We need more players with passion coming up for the good of football."

Rooney: I Don't Feel Pressure

"I feel good. I feel fresh. In some ways, missing the first two games may help me in the later games. So I'll be ready. I’m looking forward to it,"

"You have to play the best teams if you want to win tournaments and how much of a boost would it be for us if we beat them?
"How much confidence would that give us? Italy is a difficult game, however. It’s important that we've got an extra day's rest, though, and we need to use that time wisely to prepare.
"I've played better. Ukraine was my first game for a while so it was always going to take time to get into it. There were a few sloppy things, such as giving the ball away.
"To be honest, I don’t feel the pressure. Sometimes it might look like that. But I don't think I have to try too hard to make us win. I do hear all that stuff; but I don’t take much notice of it."

Del Bosque Expects France Will Attack

"I have a hard time believing they will just close the defence up. They have players who can start and build the play and I can't see them defending all of the time and waiting for us to do something. I just hope the match will turn out well,"

"The French coach is a great coach and he has great players at his disposal and the match they lost against Sweden does not tell us anything. They had not lost for a long time before this and that is the thing we will have to think about.
"I've never been one to say relationships in all teams are idyllic. You have to work to have good. Of course, some of players are more difficult to cope with but as long as they play well on pitch that's the important thing. I don't know the French players but I don't think what happened after the Sweden game will influence tomorrow's match."
"I haven't decided the team, that is why we have doubts. We have great players and any of them can player. We have lots of different options and we will just try and pick the best of them,"
"It's not true to say I have doubts just today. I have always had 23 players and all of them great, all of them important in their clubs. I could use all of them and that's why I have doubts. It would be bad to be sure about everything.
"We will see tomorrow about the team but Cesc is an option. He is a great player and he can play in different positions as he does for Barcelona. We will try to use the benefits of players who are in their top form."

Cole: It is unfinished business

Ashley Cole:

"It is unfinished business,"

“You play for your country and it is amazing to do that. But you play to win."
"I have never had the joy of winning a tournament with my country. I am not getting too ahead of myself or the team but so far it is going well.
"We have a tough game on Sunday but dreams come true and hopefully this can be one of mine.”
"I would say there are regrets. But there is nothing I can do about them now. That's over,"
"Footballers are not like any different person. Everyone makes mistakes and everyone learns from them."
"That is what football is about as well.
"Terry has been a great servant for Chelsea.
"Whatever has gone on in his life, he has put to the back of his mind and done his job in a great professional way.
"He is someone who would put his body on the line for any team and any player he plays with. He is a joy to play with."
England will take on Italy in last quarter final of EURO 12 on June 24th.

Iniesta: France similar to Barcelona

"France have a very strong team,"

"With Laurent Blanc, they try to play a bit like Spain."

"In some phases of play, they even remind me of Barca, especially in the way they carry the game to their opponents.
"It is clear they will try to fight for control of the ball because they have strong and technically gifted players. It will take a very strong Spain to prevail over them."
"To name a few, I would say that Luka Modric played a great game against us. He is phenomenal,"
"But I also noticed Yohan Cabaye in the France team. He had a great season at Newcastle and Laurent Blanc has given him a very important role in his team.
"And then there's Andrea Pirlo, who needs no introduction. He has shown a remarkable level of performance since the beginning of the Euros.
"There are many others, it is difficult to name a few because the level of the European Championship is very high."
